All night recording sessions at Hyde Street Studios in the Tenderloin were plenty. We were all falling over each other to get time in this studio. Stationary Tornado was born there and found a home on the first Hawke album “Namaquadisco.”
Released on vinyl in 1998 with a confusion of remixes as ‘Erections from Namaquadisco Vol 3‘, DJs were not sure whether to play the record at 33 or 45 rpms. This original techno-acid version was not made for the couch. With muddled vocals by Laron aka Swan, the track slid snake-like from one dimension to another, as if caught up in ‘the eye of the storm.’
I always loved the sounds and the composition on this one, and last week I punched it up a notch with T-racks so that I could make a solid digital version for DJs.
