Tantra (Hawke Remix)

Joe B of the Rebel Crew calls me up and says that he has a sexy track with his homegirl Karina Nistal doing vocals over surf guitars and he wants me to do a remix. The track ends up on a compilation called The Sweet Spot.

That how Joe B and I roll. He works something out for me and then I work something out for him. He’s the original Psychedelic B-Boy with mad skills in everything from breaking and scratching to slam poetry to graffiti art.

One of my favorite stories with Joe B was when I was playing at Super Bowl event in Houston headlined by Snoop Dogg. I was DJing after BT and I had arranged to have a live mic so that Joe could MC. About 20 minutes deep, Devin The Dude feels the vibe and gets on stage with us, and he and Joe are freestyling and breaking and it’s going off. Then the sound cuts with no warning and the sound guy announces that he has not been paid and nor has Snoop, so Snoop will not be performing, and the crowd start rioting. I grab my records and Joe B and head for the nearest exit. We didn’t want to stick around to witness the havoc.

I wish I could remember what record I was playing when the music stopped. It definitely was not ‘Tantra’ but it could have possibly been a breaks mix of “Pusherman” by Curtis Mayfield.
